KEEP THE LIGHT BURNING
Annie and her family lived in a lighthouse at sea. Every now and then their father had to go to the mainland to get food and other supplies. Being the light house caretaker wasn’t easy. They had to make sure they kept the light burning to keep the ships safe.
One day, their father had to go to town to get some food as well as medicine for their sick mother. Before he left, he appointed Abbie to take care of the lamps. Abbie accepted responsibility and off their father went. After some time, the weather became bad. There was a snowstorm brewing. Abbie stayed up the whole night and made sure the strong winds and the ice forming in the glass didn’t put off the light. The next day, the weather tool a turn for the worse. The wind was stronger, the waves bigger and the freezing rain pelted down their store house. Abbie remembered her chickens. She went out to get them but as soon as she had her chicken in a basket, a giant wave was heading for her. She was almost swept away if she hadn’t reached the door in time. Abbie with her family along with the chickens tried to endure the weather. Even with all the distractions around her, Abbie didn’t forget her job of keeping the lights burning. The next day, the sky was dark as ever. They were running out of food and only had eggs to eat. The oil for the lamps was also getting scarce and their mom was still sick. Nevertheless, Abbie kept the lights burning.
Early the next day, Abbie and her family was surprised to see the blue sky and calm waves. Then they saw a boat coming towards them. It was their father! He had brought along food, medicine and other supplies for them. Abbie’s father said he was very proud of Abbie and that he wasn’t worried because in the mainland he could see that Abbie kept the lights burning thus keeping the ship safe.

A DOG CALLED KITTY
When Ricky was still young, he had a trauma which led his life into a hole of extreme fear, a fear that hindered him to let go of his tenderness and miss the colorful wonders of his innocence. Sometimes, his fear turns his loved ones into madness. He lets his past life haunt him.
One day, a lovely helpless dog came into his life. He’s not certain of what response should he give. Ricky was scared though the puppy doesn’t look like a full-grown dog. Nevertheless, his soft heart was spotted by weakness that he doesn’t wish someone or anyone starving. Then, Ricky was moved to overcome his fear with his parents’ encouragement. The dog was welcomed warmly by the family. They named it Kitty because the pup comes out upon hearing the call Kitty, Kitty, Kitty-, which meant to be for cats. Gradually, Ricky’s pity turns into love and he counts the dog as his best friend. After all, how could someone resist a pair of pleading eyes, a body losing its worth from starving, and a warm wagging tail of a tiny creature that lost its way.
However, it was never expected that the dog would head its way apart from Rocky. Kitty was roofed with pipes that wringed its frail bulk. The boy’s fragile heart was broken and empty. As days pass by, a new strayed pup unexpectedly came. He served the pup from a ruthless dog and from starving. Slowly, he falls for it.

THE LITTLE HOUSE
A man built a little house. The house is well- built and the man who built it doesn’t like to sell it for gold or silver. He wants his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren to live there.
The little house is on a hill and “she” is happy and satisfied. She enjoys the atmosphere of every season. She enjoys looking at the sunrise and sunset. At night, she loves the scenery of stars in the sky. She also notices the view of the city in the evening. A part of her is wondering about the life in the city.
A day came when people made a road around her. Changes started to happen. Buildings, apartments and subway stations were built around her. She could no longer feel the beauty of nature that she used to enjoy. She became sad of the changes and she’s longing for her old life in the country. Years passed and the house got old. When it was almost ruined, the great-great grandfather found her. She restored the house. She moved it to a better place-countryside and she lived with it. The little house could have her old life again. She’s very glad and absolutely grateful for the help of the man’s great-great granddaughter.

THE 512 ANTS ON SULLIVAN STREET
On one fine day, a girl and her family went to Sullivan Street for a picnic. Nobody- except the girl- noticed the ants taking the packed goodies away. The first ant carried a crumb. It was followed by ants with some pieces of plumb.
The number of ants doubled each time. 4 ants got a barbecued chip; 8 got a bacon strip; 16 took a hard boiled egg; 32 hauled a plate of chicken wing and leg; 256 tried to take the cake but since it’s heavy, more ants (256) came to help garnering a total of 512.
Hungry, the family was ready to eat but all their foods were taken away to an ant hole in Sullivan Street.

A boy named Rudy Soto wants to fly like a hawk. He believes that people can fly if they wanted to. He repeatedly asked his father when he’ll be able to fly and his father answered him honestly that he’ll never fly.
Rudy came up with an idea; he’ll take care of a hawk so that he’ll learn how to fly. He’ll make the hawk his brother and they’ll fly together someday. In short, he caught a hawk and took care of it. He tied a string on the hawk’s leg so that it won’t fly away from him.
He gave shelter, food and friendship to the hawk but it usually struggled to be freed. One time, Rudy and the hawk went for a walk. When the hawk saw Santos Mountain, Rudy could feel that the bird wants to go home. After some time, Rudy let the hawk go. With the short time that he spent with the hawk, he realized one thing- he’ll never fly.
The hawk cried as it flew away as if telling that it’s sad to leave Rudy behind. Ruby learned how to take care of a hawk but never will he learn how to fly.
