3A11 THE FUNNY LITTLE WOMAN

Long, long time ago, there was a funny little woman who lived in Japan. She liked to laugh. One day, she was making dumplings out of the rice when one of the dumplings rolled from the table and fell to the earthen floor down to a hole. She tried to reach for it but then suddenly the earthen gave way and she tumbled into a totally different world. There was an unusual road and it was lived with statues of the gods. One of the statues named Jizo Sama told her that he saw her dumplings rolling down the road but she shouldn’t follow it for a wicked oni lives at the end of the road. She didn’t follow his advice and was soon captivated by the wicked oni and brought her to his house so she could cook for him and to the rest of the onis. The oni gave her a magic paddle. With the use of it, one grain of rice will become a hundred to make a pot full. After a few months, she became lonely that she decided to run away back to her little house with the magic paddle. The oni discovered it and they soon tried to drink all the water in the river so she can’t row the boat and escape. Soon, the boat could not go further. She jumped out of it and tried to run away but she was stuck in the mud. She looked very funny that the onis started to laugh loudly which in turn let out the water back to the river.
The funny little woman was able to go back her little house. There, she continued to make dumplings out of the magic paddle and sold it. She became the richest woman in Japan.

1C27 THE LUNCHBOX SURPRISE

All the students brought their own lunch in school. Each of them thought that their lunch is the best. Some had bread and ham. Some had soup. Some had chicken, peas and rice. But to Sam’s surprise, he had none. His mother forgot to prepare hid lunch. He was very sad. He got upset. Then he was angry. But his friends gave him a piece of bread and ham, some soup, chicken, peas and rice. Sam thought that his lunch was the best. He was very happy that he has very good friends.

1C12 THE BOOKSTORE CAT

Mulligan is a bookstore cat. He works in a bookstore. He acts as a guard in the bookstore. He usually lies on the floor and looks at the people who enter the store. Sometimes, he also entertains visitors. One day, the owner hung a new sign in the store. It was an announcement about a puppet show. Mulligan was so curious about the sign. Then he forgot all about the sign when he saw a pigeon right outside the door. He dislikes birds. He warned the pigeon not to enter the shop. But the pigeon entered when a family went in the store. No one saw except Mulligan so he chased the bird around the store. He destroyed many things in the shop. The bird then got tired and it rested next to a funny looking bird. The strange bird was a fake bird in the puppet show. Mulligan saw this and he tried to catch the bird. He was able to catch the bird and the real bird was set free by the store owner. Mulligan felt so proud of his accomplishment that day. After all, that’s what bookstore cats are supposed to do, isn’t it?

3B18 FLY AWAY HOME

CHARACTERS:

A boy and his father who live in the airport
The Medina’s
Denny- the boy’s friend

SUMMARY:
The story is about a boy and his father who live in the airport. Ever since his mother died, his father could not afford for both of them to live in an apartment anymore. They came to live in the airport. They sleep in it. They eat in it. They even take a bath in it. But they make sure that they don’t stay in just one place. They keep on moving to avoid the suspicion of the guards. It’s not only the boy and his father who live in the airport. There are the Medina’s too. They have a son named Denny who was the boy’s friend. They offer to carry people’s bags in exchange of money. The father works as a janitor in the government every weekend. When he does that, he leaves his son to the Medina’s. In turn, the boy works hard and saves his money because deep inside he yearns for a home to live in.
This is a tribute to homeless people in the point of view of a child. It’s a heart-wrenching story.

2B12 THE SNOWY DAY

One day, Peter woke up and it was snowy outside. He went out to play. He made foot prints on the snow walking in tiptoe, then one way, then another. He dragged his feet and then he found a stick. He hit a small tree with the stick and a clump of snow fell on his head. Then he tried to play snow ball fights with the big boys but he found it difficult so he made a snowman and snow angels. He made a snowball and he put it in his pocket for tomorrow. He went home and told his mom about his day. Then he took a bath. Then he remembered his snowball. It was gone. When he woke up, it was still snowy so he went out with his friend.

3C111 ALIEN AND POSSUM: FRIENDS NO MATTER WHAT

Possum usually stays late at night. His busy mind was awaken by a sudden crash of a space craft nearby. His curiosity led him to the site. An unusual creature came out and both were surprised to see each others physical differences. Possum offered friendship to the space creature. Then, the space creature named himself “Alien”.

Possum invited Alien into his house. After a while, they went out to look for food in the trash. After eating, they were back to Possum’s house. It’s time for bed. Possum’s practice was to read to keep him awake but he always sleep so Alien offered to read the story and keep him awake if he droops. However, no matter what Alien does, he never wakes up. The story was finished when he opened his eyes. He asked for the book to read but Alien had eaten. That made him sad for he didn’t know the story’s ending. Alien convinced him not to feel bad because he knows the story anyway. Possum came to know the whole story by Alien’s keen memory. That made Alien and Possum friends no matter what!

3C4 SYLVESTER AND THE MAGIC PEBBLE

SUMMARY


Once there lived a donkey named Sylvester Duncan with his parents at Acorn Road in Outs dale. His hobby is to collect pebbles with unusual shape and color.
One rainy Saturday, he found an extraordinary one. It was flaming red, shiny and perfectly round, like a marble. As he was scrutinizing the pebble, he felt the cold rain sloping on his back. He wished the rain would stop. He was aware that rain don’t stop immediately so he was amazed when the rain vanished as if it never appeared. All his life he never had such so he tested if the pebble has magic. He desired for the rain to be back setting aside the pebble, but nothing happened. This time, while holding the pebble, he wished for the rain and that made the sky shoot down rain accompanied by lightning and thunder.
With great excitement, he led his way back home. He was startled to see a man and a hungry lion. He panicked then wished to be a rock. So, it happened. When the lion went away, he couldn’t be donkey again because the pebble was far and he’s unable to pick it up. He felt hopeless and helpless.
Meanwhile, Sylvester’s parents were worried of him. With all their might, they tried to find him but were in vain. Days and months passed by. Mr. And Mrs. Duncan felt miserable. Seasons have gone; Sylvester still lies as a rock on Strawberry Hill.
One day, Sylvester’s parents decided for a picnic, to ease their burden, on the hill. Mr. Duncan saw a pebble beside the rock. Knowing that his son likes collecting pebbles, he picked it up and put it on the rock. Sylvester doesn’t know it. He just wished to be a donkey again so he could be with his parents. Suddenly, he was back. His parents were surprised but filled with joy. There are a lot of questions in the parent’s mind but they just savor the moment of being together, of being reunited once again, for they knew there’s still a lot of time.
